In 1944, Niels Otto Møller founded J.L. Møllers Møbelfabrik in Denmark, a company that has received many awards, including the Danish Furniture Prize in 1974 and 1981. "My father never compromised on anything,” says Jørgen Henrik Møller. "When he designed a chair, he would find the materials and then design the furniture. Each design took him five years to complete" Even today the company continues to use old craft traditions like handwoven seats, which, on the Model 78 Side Chair (1962), are made from one continuous 425-foot-long piece of cord. To make their furniture frames, Møller hand-selects raw wood from environmentally friendly sources and never uses machines for the final polish, as these devices treat all wood the same and can't replicate the finish that comes from polishing by hand. In 1974, Niels Otto Møller began exporting to Japan, which remains one of the biggest markets for his chairs due to their simplicity and craftsmanship. Møllers is still a small family-owned business and is now managed by Jørgen Henrik Møller. These chairs are authentic, C1962. Each chair measures 31.5 inches high to top of back, by 17.3 inches to top of their over upholstered seats, measures 20.5 inches deep and 19 inches wide. All original including their original seats. The table measures 79 inches long, 39.75 inches wide and 28.5 inches high with two 19.5 inch leaves for a total open dimension of 118 inches. Danish architect and designer Arne Vodder should be counted among the most influential Scandinavian mid-century designers. A student to famous furniture designed Finn Juhl, Mr Vodder started designing furniture for Fritz Hansen, France & Son ans Sibast, the latter for which he designed a wide range of furniture which received worldwide recognition and success. His beautiful designs were nicely detailed and modest in their expression, almost without exception based on natural materials. Rosewood and teak - according to the fashion at the time This set has just come in from an important CT seashore estate.
