General Information:
We have been buying and selling antiques of every description for over 33 years.
Our personal reference library numbers over 8000 volumes. Our professional
network includes experts in every specialty. We keep abreast of auction results
and market trends affecting antique values all over the world. We are able to appraise antiques in nearly every category, including fine art,
jewelry, American and European furniture, silver, ceramics, glass, toys, photographs, sporting
memorabilia, and all kinds of decorative
and vintage objects. We do extensive research on
all items to make sure no item of importance is overlooked, or misidentified.
Many years ago, our research led to the rare and important discovery of a
library table made by the Boston firm Erving and Casson. This table was an inauguration gift to President
Abraham Lincoln from his cabinet. We donated it to
the White House where it is displayed. We proudly hang our letter of thanks from First Lady Betty Ford and White House Curator
Clement Conger in our office. We have a long association with auction houses and auctioneers both inside
and outside Connecticut. We have sold or brokered millions of dollars worth of antiques at auction
throughout our 33 years in business. We will either place your item where we feel it
will bring the highest return, or orchestrate a single estate
auction for you, incorporating packing, moving, advertising and cleanup.
Benefits: Auctions can be an efficient and timely way to liquidate large amounts of personal
inventory, which, if consigned, could take months or years to sell. Auctions
often stimulate "bidding frenzies" for unusual or rare pieces, resulting in more
money than dealers or collectors would normally offer.
Estates: Auctions can save beneficiaries hundreds or thousand of
dollars. If an entire estate is sold at auction, the receipts from the
sale can be used as an appraisal to satisfy the IRS. This streamlined process
not only saves time and money, it can eliminate family disputes over value.
Marketing: We have with great success orchestrated the sale of important estates by
combing online website listings, printed adversting and live internet bidding. Regional markets differ. We have also
brokered many rare and important items that were determined best sold outside
New England in specality auctions at long established auction houses located
both in and outside of the USA.
Rates: We structure competitive commission rates which are different
for each estate and are calculated by the value of the merchandise, the
work and marketing costs involved.
