John L. Stuart started John Stuart, Inc. in 1934 with his partners Herbert M. Rothschild and Herman S. Gelbin. Stuart also owned the famous John Widdicomb Company. The Stuart showroom became one of the premier Modern Show rooms in the world showing Scandinavian designs. It was the only air-conditioned showroom in NYC in 1940. This Modern furniture movement coffee table measures 30 inches wide by 30 inches deep and 19 and three quarter inches high. Made from solid teak.The original John Stuart round black label is on the underside.

Early American Pennsylvania curly maple rocker c1750.This early country rocker measures 38 and one half inches to the top of its back, 17 inches across its front, 14 inches across its back and 15 and one half inches to the top of its seat. Excellent condition including the rush seat. Both side rails have pronounced curly maple. This always was a rocker, not cut down from a chair. American country five slat back rockers are unusual and hard to come by. To see a similar example and reference to this form being original see The Rocking Chair an American Institution by Walter A. Dyer and Esther S. Fraser 1928 page 25. This rocker is also quite comfortable.

New England pine dressing table with back splash c1835. This period American country pine piece has large hand cut dovetails, a single board top and is from one of the New England states. Measures 40 and one half inches to the top of its back splash, 36 inches the the second tier, 32 and one half inches to the front,17 inches deep, 12 inches deep at the top drawers and 38 inches wide. Wonderful condition with later appropriate brasses.

French Belle Epoch marble top fern or sculpture stand with gilt brass mountings, circa 1880. Graceful fluted column legss end in high saber feet. Pierced gilt brass gallery surrounds a cream and honey marble surface measuring 11 and three quarters inches across. Height is 40 inches. Lovely old patina. From a New Orleans estate.

Cabinet door over drawer on high cabriole legs with brass capped feet. One shelf inside cabinet. 39 inches high, 17 and one half inches wide, 14 inches deep.
