American four slat back mushroom armchair Item # 4341 Click HERE to inquire about this item American four slat back mushroom armchair, circa 1700-1710. Its origin is probably Rhode Island, possibly Connecticut. The use of ash and maple woods is typical in these chairs. The ash could be split to rough out the turnings, and the maple provided beauty. The term mushroom refers to the arm caps and finials. The posts should be turned in one piece. The four chairs are 40 inches high,18 inches wide and 14 inches deep. The table is 32 inches wide,28 inches high and 48 inches long. This set has a funky and unique look. I would describe it as mid-century modern with a Spanish influence. It was probably made in the nineteen-sixties. I like the original "verdigris" green finish.
