The stamped date of 1728 is consistent with the patina and craftsmanship of both the iron strap-work and the case. The boards were hand-chamfered. The red paint decoration on the inside of the trunk is wonderful. The surface is very good because it is unaltered, and shows natural wear. Originally, however, it was richly decorated in brilliant colors
