When we first saw this piece we thought it to be Tiffany because of its high quality craftsmanship. The hall marks on the bottom look to be from the 1860s. This Gorham sterling silver center piece is heavy with nice open work all along its upper rim. The pictures do not show just how large this piece is. The bowl measures 11 and three quarters inches long by 6 inches high and 8 inches wide. This Gorham sterling silver bowl weighs 33 ozs. Makers sterling silver 23382 M. This piece is from the Retro period and made with a leaf design.Dates 1947 to 1956 when Louis deBebian Moore son of John C.Moore was president of Tiffany. Gorham sterling silver tea service six piece Item # 1637 Click HERE to inquire about this item "Gorham sterling silver tea service" Gorham silver,This is a wonderful complete sterling silver tea service made by the Gorham silver company.The Gorham hallmarks indicate that this set was made in 1946. The tray is original to the set and was made with a sterling silver exterior rim and a hard scratch proof interior. The tray measures 16 inches across. The teapot measures 8 and one half inches high, the coffee pot measures 11 and one half inches high, the waste bowl is 4 inches high, the covered sugar measures 6 inches high, and the creamer measures 5 inches high. All the pieces are solid sterling silver and hall marked Gorham sterling silver on their bases. This is a very good quality set with a nice heavy silver weight. The spoon in this set has an old line crack repair. Both pieces have a deep hand hammered silver surface and have a wonderful heavy silver weight. Early Spratling silver pieces are very rare and hard to come by. Please refer to "Mexican Silver" by Penny Chittim Morrill and Carole A.
