Lorgnettes are sometimes called retractable lenses.This Retractable lens or "lorgnette" dates from the Victorian period c1880 and measures 4 and one half inches long. The glass lenses can be replace with moder lenses and each measures 1 inches and three eighths. The center three rings on its handle pull down to release the spring which allows the second lens to swing out. Excellent original condition. Lorgnettes in this condition are very hard to find. Snake or "serpent" bracelets of this quality are very hard to come by. There is over a carat of full cut diamonds that go all over the head and down the base of the tail along with three deep pinkish red (not dark) rubies totaling approximately one carat. The rubies are a lovely and desirable color. This bracelet weighs 45 grams and has a twist design to it. We have not yet figured out the hallmark which would tell us the country of origin but we can tell it was made in the 1950 to 1960 period because of its over all quality and design.The open design of this piece allows it to be adjusted to fill most wrist sizes.
