Pair of antique Chinese export paintings of insects: butterflies, beetles and dragonflies. Circa 1840. Painted on pith paper, a delicate and porous paper composed of the inner pith of the rice paper tree. Original condition. Minor tear in one. These paintings were the rage in China in the 1840's because their small size allowed tourists to pack them in their luggage. Frame dimensions: 12.5" x 16".
