Antique Japanese Kitani porcelain lamp circa 1860-80. This gorgeous vase with birds and flowers dates from the late Edo to the early Meiji period. It has been electrified and mounted as a table lamp. Exceptionally fine painting lavishly detailed in fine gold. On one side Kiji, uzura and kujaku (pheasant, quail and peacock) browse among among peonies and blossoming trees; on the other side is a Geisha with her attendants. Mythical birds form the handles. The lamp measures 13" high x 8.5" wide at the handles, and is 25.5" high to the top of the shade. Excellent condition, no cracks or repairs, drilled for electrification.
