Rare set of Chinese export gilt black lacquer nesting tables circa 1820. Each shaped rectangular top was minutely hand painted with figures in a court scene, accented by flowers in the corners and vines trailing down the sides. All four tables are raised on pierced urn-form supports and splayed legs joined by a bow stretcher. Marked underneath. The largest table measures 28" high x 19.5" wide x 12.5" deep; the next 27" x 16.5" x 11.5"; the next 26" x 15" x 10.75"; and the smallest 25" x 13" x 10". All are in superb condition. The painting on the top table has some light wear, all the rest are nearly perfect. The top table folds open on one side to a green baize surface for card games, and on the other side to a checker or chess board. We have never offered a set of Chinese lacquer nesting tables of this quality.
