Antique early 19th century English brass wall pocket, sometimes called a tidy box because it was a handy catchall. Handmade from heavy, thick solid brass circa 1850. It measures 9 inches wide, 2 inches deep, and 8 inches high at back. See "The Brass Book" by Peter, Nancy and Herbert Schiffer 1978 page 122 for a similar example
