Exceptional American Empire mahogany sofa, circa 1830. Bold shell carved arms ends and paw feet. The frame is in excellent original condition, and the upholstery is intact but shows some light discolorations. From an important East Haddam CT riverfront estate. Measures 88 inches wide, 32.5 inches high to the back, 30 inches high to the arms, 18 inches high to the seat, and 23 inches deep.This sofa is similar to a sofa in a sketch by Anthony Quervelle (1789-1856) at the Philadelphia Museum of Arts.
