Early American or English folk art sampler dated 1839. The center medallion reads "18 APD 39." Very good condition, nicely framed, never glued down. The design includes birds, flowers, potted trees, fruit baskets, angels, roosters, and an upper central figure holding a liberty pole, a symbol of liberty, freedom and independence. Marked GPD top left, TPN top right, TDB lower left, CK lower right. Highly detailed with neat, evenly stitched needlepoint in a balanced overall design including borders. Measures 20 inches square.
