Fineberg pair mahogany Queen Anne night stands

Fine pair of Fineberg (Hartford, CT) handmade Queen Anne style mahogany night stands, or bedside tables, circa 1930-50. Each stand measures 17 inches square by 28.5 inches high and is made from the finest matched mahogany stock. The drawers have superb hand cut dovetails. Fineberg Furniture was located in Hartford, CT. Abraham Fineberg came to Hartford in 1929. Like Nathan Margolis, he was born in Lithuania. After a brief sojourn in London, he arrived in the United States at the age of 16, working first in Portland, Maine. From 1929 to 1932 he restored and built furniture in the Southern New England Ice House building on Farmington Avenue. Samuel Winick operated a store located next door. In 1932, Fineberg moved to the upper floors of a three-story building on Church Street on the site of the present Hartford Stage Company. There, Abraham Fineberg and his son, Israel, made fine pieces of furniture to order. Clients would select designs, often from Lockwoods and Nuttings books, and Fineberg would make sketches to come up with a suitable design. Pieces were often scaled down from the originals to conform to contemporary needs. Israel Fineberg today describes his father as a painstaking craftsman who took great personal pride in his work and strove for perfection. He would work long hours to get things right and then felt reluctant to part with his "children." The furniture produced by the two Finebergs is rarely marked in any way to distinguish it. Only people that know their work recognize the cabinet work of A. Fineberg. Abraham Fineberg passed away in 1963. His son Israel then took over the business. Israel passed away on October 26, 1997. Matched pair of Nathan Margolis shop snake foot candle stands

Matched pair of Nathan Margolis shop mahogany Queen Anne style snake foot candle stands with Nathan Margolis burn with border labels underneath. Each table measures 26" high and 20 inches across their dish carved tops, c1937. Dish carving is one of the most difficult forms to make. Each top is carved out from a single piece of mahogany. The top molding is part of the original single board, not added later. If Margolis had made any mistake, he would have had to start all over. The Nathan Margolis furniture store was in Hartford CT. It reproduced the best examples of period 18th and early 19thc American furniture designs during the early 20th century. Even at this time the Margolis shop had a difficult time finding perfectly matched mahogany to make tables of this quality.

Adirondack hickory wood stick stand c1880

Adirondack hickory wood stick plant stand c1880. This table was hand made from individual hickory tree branches. Measures 24 inches high, 21.5 x 25 inches at its base with a 16 x 14 inch top. All original. Rustic furniture was originally made from whatever natural materials were in greatest supply, and often by poor people as items of trade for food or cash. It is associated with the Great Depression and other hard times in America; however, it is also associated with the Great Camps built by wealthy Americans in the Adirondack Mountains of New York. Various rustic styles reflect the personality of their maker, with techniques such as chip carving, silver or gold brushwork, milk paint, peeled bark and other decorative enhancements. The basic wood used for rustic furniture was usually willow, although many other hard- and softwoods were also used. In the American South, palm fronds were occasionally employed. Historical examples of rustic furniture may be found in museums and antique shops, although fine historical pieces are rare outside a museum setting. One showcase for this style of furniture is the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake, New York. Typical items of rustic furniture include chairs, love seats, tables, desks, smoking stands (often with a cabin on top), clocks, chest of drawers, rockers, coat racks, mirror frames and lamps. For more information on this furniture design and history go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rustic_furniture.

Handmade New England pine country kitchen table

Country pumpkin pine hand made hand hewed and pinned dining table made from antique pine .This wonderful hand made hand hewed farm house table was made from two wide 18th century pine boards straight tapered legs, bread board ends and wooden pin construction by a local master craftsman that has agreed to painstakingly make hand made tables in the early American 18th century manner. These are tables who's size and quality and design we can just not find in our daily searches for fine antiques. They are made by hand with antique block planes which give that lovely hand hewed look. Each tables size is determined by the size of the 18th century board we find, no two will be the same. Early boards have the most beautiful deep rich patina which simply can not be duplicated with new boards. The top board retains all its original wear and old pot mark which gives it the true period look that is the most desirable. This table measures 79 .25 inches long, 36 and one quarter inches deep, and 29 inches high. This table would be just perfect in a country kitchen or dining room.

Country kitchen pumpkin pine wide board dining table

This table measures 98 inches long, 42 and one quarter inches deep, and 29 inches high. This table would be just perfect in a country kitchen or dining room.
