18th century painted tin (tole ware) dome top box made in the Upson Tin Shop in the Marion section of Southington, CT. The Upson Shop was operating from 1793 to 1837. The box bears the Upson signature mark on the front panel. Excellent condition with just one piece missing on the lock cover. Measures 6.5"long by 3" deep by 3.5" high. Please see Volume 1 of "American Painted Tinware a Guide to its Identification," by Gina Martin and Lois Tucker, pages 55 and 67, to see this exact signature.
