Antique American rose cut diamond ring circa 1800. This late eighteenth to early 19th century gold mounted ring features 2 larger and 2 smaller diamonds set in an oval platform atop a frame of 14 diamonds; 3 more diamonds trail down each side of the shank. All the stones are foil backed. This ring is similar to one shown on page 29 of Jewelry in America 1600 to 1900 by Martha Gandy Fales. The setting is at least 14 karat gold and there are approximately 2 carats of diamonds in total. The band measures size 5. The oval top measures 5 eighths of an inch by seven sixteenths of an inch.
