A Rare American pair of Boston Federal period brass fireplace andirons, c. 1800, signed J. Davis on the billet bar, in the steeple top pattern, the cabriole legs with spurs and ending in snake feet. Each andiron measures 18 inches high, 18 inches deep and 10.5 inches wide at base. From a CT estate. Reference: An similar pair is illustrated on pg. 64 of Early American Andirons and Other Fireplace Accessories by Henry J. Kauffman, Quentin H. Bowers, also shown in The Brass Book by Peter, Nancy & Herbert Schiffer, pg. 52, plate B and C. Excellent original condition.
