This oil on canvas painting of a Bald Eagle on a branch measures 12 inches by 16 inches. Richard Montross was born in 1939. Studied art at Columbia University Art Students League Lyme School of Art Edinburgh University and the Florida State University. The Birds of Prey Painting series (which this is one of) have only been exhibited once in the past 45 years. This is the first time and place these paintings have been made available for purchase. When they were first exhibited they were only available for viewing not for sale. Richard Montross lives in CT. We are very honored to have been selected to market his works which are being offered here for the first time. Masures 26 and one half inches wide by 20 and three quarters inches high outside of the frame. Bicknell painted in Stamford CT. Oil on canvas 24 x 30. Signed lower left. Title "An October Sunset" in pencil on stretcher. Condition is excellent no inpainting or repairs cleaned and relined by master conservator David W. Kimball Jr. This was Frank A. Bicknell's 1908 entry in the National Academy of Design catalog #216. He chose this painting as an example of his best work. It is highlighted with bright fall colors of luminous yellows and greens. Frank Bicknell was an important Old Lyme Colony artist. He was born in 1866 in Augusta ME and died in 1943 in Essex CT. His addresses include Malden MA NYC and Old Lyme CT. He studied with his father Albion H. Bicknell and at Academie Julien Paris. His memberships include ANA Paris AAA SC NAC Allied Am. Artists NAD SPNY PAA and Chicago WC Soc. Please see Who Was Who in American Art Vol. 1 page 309 for complete listing.... NOTE on Oct 21 2004 Shannons auction sold a Bicknell titled (The Old Apple Ocrhard Springtime Auvers Sur Oise) measuring 32 by 39 inches that was estimated for $20 0 to $30 0 The painting brought $57 750 !. Bicknell paintings are now going way up in value as the American Impressionist Old Lyme movement is coming into its own.
