can show not only the land but the patterns of human development and
change. Some members are scholars who have published numerous books

Northern Ohio Map Society is a special interest group of the Northern
Ohio Bibliophilic Society, the region's association of book lovers,
dealers and librarians. The map society was formed in 1994 and meets
approximately quarterly to visit institutional map collections, watch
maps being made, hear lectures on cartography and anything else that
might be interesting.
Texas
Map Society
The
Texas Map Society (TMS) is devoted to fostering the study,
understanding, and collecting of historical maps and cartography. The
TMS is the only society of its kind in Texas and one of the few in the
United States. The Society normally meets in the spring and fall at
the University of Texas at Arlington, Texas.
Society
for the History of Discoveries
The Society was formed to
stimulate interest in teaching, research, and publishing the history
of geographical exploration. Founded in 1960, the Society includes
members from various academic disciplines as well as archivists,
non-affiliated scholars, and laypersons with an interest in history.
The scope of the Society's activities encompasses the discovery,
exploration, and mapping of the earth's land and sea surface from the
earliest times to the present - the explorers and the explored.
The Rocky
Mountain Map Society
The Rocky Mountain Map Society was organized in February of 1991
to support and encourage the study and preservation of maps and
related materials. The Society meets quarterly and generally has a
speaker on a map topic followed by a period of general discussion
including a "show-and-tell" period where members bring maps
of general interest and describe them for the group; often other
members add interesting bits of information. The Society has had a
particular interest in the 19th Century maps of the Rocky Mountain
Region and 16th Century maps of the "New World".
The Society has
no newsletter- its only mailings are meeting announcements. There are
currently approximately 30 paid members of the Society; most reside in
the Denver metropolitan area, however, several live in nearby states.
Annual dues are $10 for which members also receive a subscription to
Mapline Magazine published by The Newberry Library in Chicago. To date
all meetings have been in Denver. For more information contact:
