19th century oil on canvas over artist board china trade portrait painting of a young lady. She is wearing a simple black dress with a white shawl embroidered with ferns. Her elaborate hair-do is enhanced by a fern as well. She is not wearing any jewelry, which is indeed unusual for this period. She has a pleasant and charming face. The construction of the stretcher is particular to China-trade paintings. The frame is replaced. Overall measurements are 29.75" wide by 32" high
