Lignum vitae mortar and pestle c1800 Mortar measures 8.75 inches high and 5.5 inches wide, with a 4 inch opening. Pestle measures 9 inches long. They both were turned from a single piece of lignum vitae, a particularly dense and beautifully shaded hardwood. Two objects of this size made from a single piece of lignum vitae are rare.
