RARE period English brass newel post cap with porcelain dog insert c1800. The porcelain insert depicts a dog with hat,glasses and a book in his hand which is inserted into the cast brass top and held with a bronze lion headed fastener. Measures 2.75 inches across outside, 1.5 inches high and has 1.7/8 inches cut out to hold the post.
