One of England's greatest graphic artists specializing in the delicate art of drypoint etching, Elyse Ashe Lord was elected to the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours in 1922 and was also a member of the Society of Graver-Printers in Colour. She favored etching exotic and Far Eastern figure subjects, treating them in delicate and imaginative colors. Lord actively exhibited from 1915 through 1939 in London with the famed Lefevre Gallery, who with London dealer Alexander Reid published her work. Her art was also shown at the Royal Academy of Arts, the Royal institute, the Royal Scottish Academy, the Walker Art Gallery of Liverpool, the Fine Art Society and The Paris Salon, where she received the silver medal for color prints. In addition, her work was published in Masters of the Colour Print, Volume 1, 1927, with an introduction by Malcolm C. Salaman. In 1990 Cyril Gerber Fine Art of Glasgow held an important retrospective exhibition of her work. Lord lived in Bexley, Kent. ( ref: Robyn Butin: Salaman: Royal Academy Archive |
