Gorham gilt brass and silver ink well c1845Important gilt cast brass, coin silver, and cut glass platform ink well made by Jabez Gorham & Son of Providence, Rhode Island. Stamped J G & Son 109. Jabez Gorham was the founder of the Gorham Silver Company. This mark was used in 1841, when his son John joined the firm, until 1850. The inkwell features a silver full body stag atop the lid. The footed stand features gold plated scrollwork inset with 4 silver repousse panels depicting ducks, partridges, hares, and deer. Inkwell measures 6 and one half inches high by 3 and one half inches in diameter. Stand measures 12 inches square by 2 inches high.
