Vintage mahogany drop leaf table on a pedestal base c1920
Vintage mahogany drop-leaf table on a pedestal base. It is a reproduction of an original Duncan Phyfe design from about 1820. The table features brass spring mechanisms supporting the raised leaves; these were used after 1920. The stenciled 207 MAH mark is an assembly line mark from the factory that made it. MAH is an abbreviation for mahogany. The reeded edges and fluted shaft were carved by machine. The original 1820 counterpart was entirely handmade by a single cabinetmaker, and the leaf supports were fashioned of wood. This table, while not an antique, is still a nice classic vintage piece
